Recurring Appointments in GroupWise for 2012
When your GroupWise email is migrated, your messages, contacts, and calendar appointments will be transferred over to your new Outlook / Exchange account. A single appointment sent to an individual or a group will transfer over without issue. However, GroupWise recurring appointments, those created using the auto-date feature in GroupWise, will be copied over as individual appointments. This means that Outlook / Exchange will not recognize a series of connected appointments created in GroupWise, which is the case for all recurring appointments, whether they are for one individual or for a group.
After the migration, this only becomes an issue if you need to make changes to recurring appointments such as changes to dates, times or locations.
So, what can you do about your recurring appointments? We won’t assume to know how to manage your workflow, but we can offer you two approaches to consider.
Option 1:
You can continue to schedule recurring appointments in GroupWise for 2012 with the understanding that after the migration if you need to change one of these appointments, you will have to do the following.
- Send changes to all recipients (e.g. revised location or date) and request that they delete the old appointment that originated in GroupWise.
Option 2:
You can schedule recurring appointments up to the 2012 spring semester in GroupWise and then create recurring appointments after that time in Outlook. Once in Outlook, you will be able to schedule meetings, including repeated appointments with Outlook’s “recurrence” feature.
